Metropolitan Mosquito Control District - Drone Use

Seeing Drone Activity? See the below message from Metropolitan Mosquito Control District:

"Metropolitan Mosquito Control District is using drones to treat wetlands this year, and we want to ensure residents of New Prague are aware in case they see our staff. Drones have been a great addition to our program, allowing us to access more mosquito-breeding sites while improving staff safety. We wanted to share some information about our drone program:

·         Drones apply a dry granule to areas of standing water with an active ingredient that targets mosquito larvae. The materials are not harmful to people, pets, or wildlife.

·         Drones fly 150-200ft above a wetland when completing an application.

·         The pilot will always maintain eye contact with the drone. If residents see drones, MMCD staff are nearby.

·         Areas near where the drones are taking off will have a large, orange sign that says “Mosquito Control Drone Use.” All staff will be wearing yellow high-vis vests that say “Public Health Mosquito Control.”

·         We do our best not to fly over anyone’s private property, but sometimes wetlands cannot be accessed otherwise. Staff may knock on doors of houses that are nearby active drone treatments to notify residents.

We post a list of cities with planned drone treatments each week on our website:
